Artcore Gallery is proud to be one of the locations for this year’s Lantern Sculpture Trail as part of Derby Season of Light 2024 festival.

Commissioned by Surtal Arts, eight emerging artists from Derby & Derbyshire will create a series of giant lantern sculptures trailing through the city. Inspired by the theme of climate action, the “World of Flowers” trail features 11 unique works, lit with eco-friendly LED lights and made of recycled materials.  They are waiting to be discovered in various locations in the city centre and Normanton – connecting some of Derby’s most unique communities and places. Families can go hunting for these special sculptures while discovering new places, people and stories and take pride in the city we call ‘home’.

About the sculpture at Artcore Gallery

This lantern sculpture embodies a vibrant fusion of cultures, featuring native flowers from Iran, Jamaica, and the UK. The design symbolizes the rich diversity and interconnectedness of these cultures through a beautifully woven vase, crafted from the stems of the 5 flowers themselves.

This interwoven structure highlights our shared connection to the earth. The materials used for this project include willow stems, tissue paper and tape, meticulously assembled to create a captivating and meaningful piece of art.

About the artist
I am an Iranian artist who moved to the UK three years ago and am currently pursuing an MA in Fine Art at the University of Derby. Art has been a part of my life since childhood—it’s more than just a passion; it’s the only way I know how to live. My work is a reflection of the world as I envision it, deeply intertwined with my concerns about social and political conflicts, particularly those affecting my homeland, Iran.
