As part of Artcore’s ongoing exhibition, ‘The Silence of Growing Things,’ Freya Gabie will be hosting a free printmaking workshop on 21st June from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Arboretum Park, Derby for adults and children (families) to attend. There will be FREE LUNCH at 1:00 pm.

The workshop will involve collecting textured material such as leaves from the Arboretum Park and using them to create prints, drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings that inspired Freya’s work in the current exhibition.

Derby Arboretum, established in 1840 as Britain’s first municipal park, was originally designed as a botanical garden of trees for the education and enjoyment of Derby’s working class. This park was a generous gift from industrialist Joseph Strutt and featured many exotic trees brought from around the world, including varieties like the horse chestnut and cotoneaster tree from India.

Unfortunately, the park suffered from heavy industrial pollution, which killed many of its tree species. Despite this, the garden remains open to the public today, with a few of the original trees still standing.

Join Freya for an insightful evening exploring this historical park and learning about the inspirations behind her art.
