Samvāda in Clay marks Artcore’s first Indo-British international ceramics residency and exhibition, bringing together renowned Indian ceramic artist Vinod Daroz and emerging UK-based artist Abbie Sunter for a dynamic cross-cultural exchange rooted in clay.. The residency provides space for material exploration, conceptual dialogue, and the evolution of new works that respond to personal, cultural, and geographical contexts.
Through studio-based practice, artist-led workshops, and public conversations, the program fosters meaningful engagement between artists and the wider Derby community. Samvāda- meaning “dialogue” in Sanskrit, frames the residency as a space for both introspection and exchange, where traditions are revisited and reimagined through contemporary ceramic practices.
The residency will culminate in an exhibition by the artists, showcasing the works created during the residency period.

Abbie is a multi-media artist; however, she is best known for her work in ceramic sculpture.
Working primarily in stoneware, Abbie’s work can highlight the rich and earthy tones of the material itself or push the boundaries of what would be considered traditional ceramic processes through her bold use of colour and gilding. The inspiration for her work often comes from folklore, myths and legends, and explores how these themes can help us to find a sense of place through nature.
Abbie recently returned to university to study for her MA in Art (Fine Art & Photography) at The University of Derby, for which her final major project received the Artcore Emerging Artist Award and she graduated with Distinction.
Abbie also works at Banks Mill Studios, supporting new and emerging artists through their own creative journeys whilst continuing to expand her own practice.
