Four sessions of Gel printing with professional Artist, printmaker and tutor, Nicki Dennett.
Gel printing is a fun accessible method of printmaking that can be greatly rewarding and uses little special equipment and no press.
During the sessions you will be introduced to various methods of using the Gel plate to print different kinds of imagery. You will leave each session with several interesting, layered prints that capture detail, shape and colour with some added metallic sparkle.
In the last session you will use some of your Gel prints and create a finished piece of art to frame, a collaged set of cards or a small 3d object (or all three!!)
The course is ideal for beginners but also for those with more experienced who want to try something new.
What to expect
Instead of trying to cram a whole load of techniques we have broken it down into four sessions as follows:
Session 1
Activate
Moisturising the plate to improve the flexibility whilst creating stunning backgrounds that we will use later.
Two/three-tone
Create two and three colours in one pull of a print in the style of Mark Rothko.
We are going to use different papers including recycled papers, tissue papers, food wrap sheets and cards. Here we can add a bit of sparkle and shimmer with metallic paints.
Session 2
Peeling Paint
Using the built up layers of paint that are dried onto the plate from the last session to create interesting effects and bursts of colour, reminiscent of an old wall with layers of peeling paint.
Pattern and texture
Using found objects, plants and stencils to your backgrounds to create multiple layers of texture, pattern and colour.
Session 3
Experiment
A session to revisit favourite techniques learnt so far and experiment further.
Session 4
What shall I do with my pile of Gel prints?
A question I often get asked. You may end up with lots of beautiful colours, patterns and textures on various papers. So, in this session we will look at a few ideas of how all the gel prints can be transformed into finished products.
You can book on just one session or all four.
