Join us in a celebration of Peace at Artcore Gallery on Thursday September 21st 10:00-13:00
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the 21st September, this is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.
We will be supporting International Peace day at Artcore Gallery:
- Between 10:00-11:30 artist Caroline Ainsworth will deliver a creative arts workshop with Peace at its heart, open to all to get involved.
- At 11:45 we will be visiting the Derby City Council House where we will unveil the ‘375 Squares For Peace’ blankets from Derby’s twinned city of Osnabruck. Throughout 2023, the city of Osnabruck have been celebrating 375 years since the peace treaty for the ‘30 Year War’ was signed in Osnabruck town hall. The partner city ambassadors have developed this project to create ‘375 Squares for Peace’. Through this they have created 6 special blankets made from handmade textile squares, sent from people all over the world. Our participants at Artcore and other local communities in Derby also took part in this project. Also in attendance for the unveiling will be five young people who visited Osnabruck for the Peace Summit earlier this year, who will talk about their experiences.
- At 12:30 we will return to Artcore Gallery to share food together and to discuss and reflect upon the ideas of peace.
Derby Peace Week is taking place between 18th and 22nd of September 2023. During the week Derby will host a variety of cultural events promoting peace, antiracism and protection of the environment. Coordinated by 19 different local organisations.
We look forward to welcoming you all at Artcore.
